Petrologia de Rocas Sedimentarias - Robert L. Folk (1981)

La petrología es la rama de la geología que se preocupa del estudio de las rocas desde el punto de vista genético y de sus relaciones con otras rocas. Es considerada una de las principales ramas de la Geología.

Consiste en el estudio de las propiedades físicas, químicas, mineralógicas, espaciales y cronológicas de las asociaciones rocosas y de los procesos responsables de su formación. El estudio de la petrología de sedimentos y de rocas sedimentarias se conoce como petrología sedimentaria.
